Bio

Anne Frédérique de Bellefroid was born on January 11, 1961 in Gembloux, Belgium. In 1980 she met the painter Marcel Hastir in Brussels. From 1980 to 1983 she attended classes in drawing and restoration of old paintings at Marcel Hastir's studio. At the end of 1983 she moved to London to follow an internship with the restorer of modern paintings John Bull. She worked for the restorer of old paintings Sarah Jennings and then for the workshop of Paul Mitchell. In 1985 she left London to follow her husband to Rome. In Rome she abandoned the restoration of paintings to devote herself to the education of her three children. In 1999 she attended the classes of Vito Cipolla, a sculptor who introduced her to the vast world of ceramic sculpture. For many years she attended the workshop of Antonio Griecco. In 2021, together with Paola Orlando, she created a ceramic workshop in the heart of Trastevere. Together they founded the cultural association Magma in order to promote the world of ceramics and to give artists and apprentice-artists the possibility to attend the workshop. She does not like social networks and is inactive. Her personal path, her inner world, her passion for the elements Earth, Fire, Water are the engine of her work.
