How does LP4Y's action affect you, and how does the artwork offered resonate with the project ?
I have chosen to contribute with this piece as It symbolising a path to something new. I believe the world is to rough especially for young people today and we need to give them hope and encouragement. With a map of bright colours and a crocked path to go we will go forward. Working with Monotype resonate a lot to this project for me as it gives you one chance to leave a trace on the paper, there is no possibility to make a second copy. It does not mean it has to be perfect, just that there is not two the same. Like persons- we are all different and so are the traces we leave behind.
And you, what "Empreinte" do you want to leave?
I’d like to leave a trace of happiness and joy. Add playfulness and imagination. Maybe a bit of magic - a thought that everything could be possible. In a world like today I believe we all need a bit of hope. Hope that the world can be kind and understanding. I believe that stories, colours and imagination can bring us that little beak from reality we all need sometimes.
Biography:
Alexandra - ALX is Swedish multimedia artist living in Brussels since 2003.
Background within painting, printing, flowers and ceramics.
With a Studio in Ixelles and one foot on the Swedish west coast, inspiration flows both ways. Alexandra is working with ceramics at the Academy in Anderlecht. She is also working with drawing and printing at the Academy in Uccle.
She likes to bring together ceramic sculptures, sculptural lamps and large scale paintings in a
vivid, playful environment inspired by nature and underwater worlds.
Organic forms, bright colours, and tactile surfaces invite the viewer into a space that feels both familiar and fantastical.
The ceramic works is a mix between functional and decorative. She is not looking for perfection more a way to transfer joy and playfulness.
She says-I’d like the feeling when people get happy seeing my work. Sometimes you don’t know if you like it or not but you know you feel something. She creates paintings and sculptured forms that resemble sea
creatures, corals, shells or plants blurring between object and character.
Their surface is layered with colour and texture celebrating imperfection,
movement and the hand of the maker.
The paintings expand the universe onto larger scale. Bold, colourful compositions evoke
underwater landscapes, flowing currents and imagined botanical gardens. Shapes drift, collide and transform.
Together the works create an immersive world that embraces joy, curiosity and creativity . She likes to tell a story, a story that is created in the mind of the viewer. Inviting the viewer to embrace colour and playfulness in life.
